| I saw both Lempicka and The Outsiders in La Jolla. The Outsiders had it's moments, but felt like it needed help. Lempicka also needed a touch here and there, but man o man was the show FANTASTIC. The score soars. The staging/lighting was mind blowing. And the story is incredible. These in this room who did not have nice things to say about it either did not actually see it or saw the 2018 version, not the 2002. Will it be a hit? A discussion group after a performance stated that this is a "thinking person's musical" and the score is not really hummable. Those are strong selling points for me, but not sure it is for a tourist crowd that knows little about this amazing artist. |
