| Except that when stars of this level come to Broadway, ticket prices are outrageous (An Enemy of the People is at $399 with lesser names and made over a million last week at Circle in the Square with a capacity under 800). The more that shows like that make money based on star power the harder it will be to find shows that are playing on their merits alone. It will be interesting to see how Stereophonic fares. Of course Broadway has always had star vehicles, but it's a much more recent trend to charge hundreds of dollars for the opportunity to see those shows. When Elizabeth Taylor did The Little Foxes, it sold out, sure, but the prices were no higher than anything else on Broadway at the time. | |
