Agreed, Keith Carradine was perfect, Guarini and Hackmann both extremely good with a grasp of period style. I thought it was excellently cast all-around and nicely directed. Hackmann was really more than good. "They Call the Wind Maria" was as thrilling and moving as it's perhaps ever been (even if Hackmann looked too hot for the character, making the lead-in dialogue slightly bizarre). And I think it's a terrific show. Wisely, they went back mostly to the original version rather than the tour version, which is what was licensed (and may still be what's licensed). My only reservation was that only around a third of the dance music was heard, if I'm remembering correctly what a member of the music team told me.

Hackmann did a bunch of John Wilson's BBC Proms staged concerts of musicals. And, as you may know, he is Curly on Wilson's complete recording of the score of Oklahoma! on the Chandos label, which was just bought by the owner of Naxos. He may be Billy on the upcoming Carousel, but I'm not sure. He worked some at the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, Pa., after Paint Your Wagon, where I believe his wife is, or was, on staff. I know some of this because I have friends in Lancaster who asked me if I knew anything about him when he did a couple of shows there.
