Interesting point. With regard to missing "the scary Sweeney" I was actually surprised at how dark and even ferocious Groban's Sweeney got at the performance I attended about 1/3 of the way through his run. But it seems like that "color" of his performance was not consistent and many others saw a much tamer portrayal? I will say, I'm not a huge fan of his performance on the cast recording. As beautifully sung as it is, it lacks the fieriness I experienced in the theatre that night.
