I was baffled by some of the directorial choices, even after seeing it twice. But it had so many 'wow' moments in terms of re-interpretation, especially using film as a literal source for telling the story which makes sense as the underlying theme in the musical is about making a film.

Forget the turbans and other associations made with Norma Desmond in the past. It is a vastly different take but one that is relevent and powerful. The last 10 minutes is among the most powerful I have spent in a theatre in recent memory.

There is a drawback to not having props so things referenced as such may get missed (including the monkey), but go with an open mind.

I hope it is as much as of a success on Broadway as it was here in London (and I hope Rachel Tucker gets to reprise her amazing Norma twice a week).
