I'll also say that I thought there was something more than a little bit queasy about turning a show about the rise of fascism in the Weimar Republic into an expensive hot-ticket event with lobby entertainment and a cash bar. I suspect that if the production had had anything meaningful to say about *our spectatorship* - if Frecknell and her design team had found some equivalent of the mirror in Hal Prince's production - I might not have had those misgivings, but simply putting the audience in an ersatz nightclub wasn't enough to make the point that bystanders are complicit, which meant that the result, I'm afraid, was almost like "Mamma Mia: The Party" with Swastikas.
