| Sure, absolutely...that's pretty much why any production starts at a non-profit, but I'm curious about WHY the powers that be with this particular production don't have the confidence in it that the London producers had with opening it as a commercial run in the West End. Did it flop financially there? Are costs so much higher in New York that even a starry Sondheim revue needs the protection of a non-profit? There's no reason to think that the Broadway cast won't be filled out with even more starry names and I was positing in my post above that the producers could even go the INTO THE WOODS route and bring in a revolving cast of Broadway names to keep interest high and be able to bring in stars who can't commit to the show long term. So it's kind of a mystery to me why this production is making a pit stop at MTC on its way (surely) to a commercial Broadway run. |
