I believe what you are saying. I've been at a number of shows where I live in Chicago where an announcement was made just before the performance started saying that an understudy is going on for one of the leads. It happens sometimes.

Let's change the subject. This may strike you as weird, but the way you word your posts reminds me of an ATC-er I had a conversation with some years ago, specifically on Jan. 27, 2019 at a 2:30 PM performance of the musical Carmelina at York Theatre. I was seated in D19, house left. I began talking with the guy sitting behind me who said he was a poster on ATC. He was concerned that Ben Brantley might pan York's revisal of the show. When I told him that Brantley would not be allowed to review a Mufti "reading", he got a little upset that he had paid full price for a show that was not an "official" performance. Anyway, by any chance was that you?
