It made headlines this week when Japan Airlines appointed a woman as their new CEO - not simply because they'd appointed a new CEO, but because it's still so unusual in Japan for a woman to break through the glass ceiling and be appointed to a post at that level.

Theatre audiences - from what I saw, I don't know that I'd say 99% women, but yes, WAY more women than men (the single exception among the various shows I saw there being Wildhorn's 'Death Note'), but I think the audience for western musicals is a little different from the audience for kabuki. And the audience reaction was interesting: yes, some clapping along during rock-ish numbers, but *very* muted applause at the end of each musical number, and then applause at the curtain call that went on for significantly longer than you would usually expect in London or New York.
