In another thread further down, I wondered if Encores! audiences, now so used to getting, for all intents and purposes, fully staged productions, would revolt if the powers that be reverted to the original style of presentation with performers in formal wear standing in front of mics and holding (and using) scripts. Costs for these "concerts" must have skyrocketed over the years due to costumes and sets and other production values and all that money being spent on those things is money not being spent restoring scores, which was one of the original raisons d'etre of the organization.

Personally, I don't think there's any going back, but every time I hear a someone at Encores! talk about how expensive it would be to do this or that show because they'd need to restore the score or re-orchestrate something or whatever, I think about how much they must be spending on production values now and wonder if there's anyone in a position of power who might advocate for a "back to basics" approach that would, in fact, allow them to do add such a show to the lineup.
