I understand your thought, but I think the producers that brought the show over (not to be confused with with unworldly list of producers and the newly fashionable term "co-producers") thought they had a head of steam large enough to carry it forward to Broadway successfully. They obviously ran into major headwinds. I don't think it is fully comparable to HLL, a show that, on paper, still seemed more like a wish and a prayer.
