You are correct. I think Donna may have bruised a vocal cord and Laura B. was the one with the neck injury.
Donna had a vocal cord hemorrhage during "Wonderful Town" previews and it didn't heal properly and she had to leave the show permanently for total vocal rest.
It took a long time but she had no problems in her later shows with attendance.
