| Couldn't agree more. I saw the original Broadway production and have seen many productions since, including Des McAnuff's mostly dreadful, on wheelies, La Jolla Playhouse production and the NY City Center summer Encores production. Nothing has come close to the joy and creativity of the original. And I don't know if that original cast can ever be matched. I've seen this current production, very hit and miss, a few of the performances are excellent but overall it's just a loud, hit you over the head, tacky, but I'm guessing very expensive, touring production, doing a few months in NY. |
