I think the difference is that they look better in photos than they do live. I agree that the productions here, combined with a super basic set, look cheap. Seeing it live, your eye focuses on the actual objects - the pinball machines that look like they were cast-offs from a high school shop class. Whereas in photos, you almost don’t see the furniture. And the projections aren’t moving- you get a single, carefully curated image.
It’s theatre designed for Instagram. Just like those ads for whatever slideshow ‘museum’ of the moment is happening - Monet or whatever. The ads draw you in and then you realize it’s just hastily thrown together schlock. |
