STEREOPHONIC First Preview

I know I'm not the only board member who was at last night's first preview! The show is in excellent shape and, to my weed-addled brain, identical to the Playwrights production. A really enthusiastic crowd, some lovely complementary tote bags, and a beautiful reminder that there can be space for nuanced, adult, real funny not 'theatre' funny!!, actual music!! work on Broadway.

I am very excited to see how audiences discover this play, which is sure to be a contender come award season (I not-so-secretly would like to see it compete in BEST SCORE, but probably not in such a crowded season). More importantly, this is exactly the kind of play that regional theatres will devour once rights become available -- one set, a small but healthy cast size, and the exact kind of material that audiences are crying out for.

This one is worth your money. This one is worth your time. (Although, let's be honest -- they could AND SHOULD cut down from the three hours and fifteen minutes run time.) What a joy to be a fly on the wall of the still-intimate recording sessions at play in STEREOPHONIC.

Now, could someone PLEASE pass me the bag! ;)
