Broadway 101

Welcome to Broadway 101. What you will find here is the history of The Great White Way, sectioned off by decades. The first installment tells the history of Broadway and the theatre prior to 1900. Then we begin with the period of 1900 to 1910. You can read about any decade individually or you can start at the beginning. We're currently working on the next installment.

The Great White Way - #1

Give My Regards To Broadway! 1900-1910 - #2

Over There 1910-1920 - #3

The American Theater 1920-1930 - #4

The Great Depression 1930-1940 - #5

A Bright Golden Haze 1940-1950 - #6

Also in this section we have a photo gallery which traces the history of the street called Broadway. The New York Daily News called it "a site to behold." In the gallery you'll find photos and prints dating from 1650 to 1905, many of which have not been seen for many years.

Coming soon will be another gallery featuring the history of The Theatre Guild from 1919 to 1937.
