I have been a big champion of Back to the Future, and I had a hunch the Tonys might want to reward a show with potential commercial appeal after consecutive years of selecting musicals that did not recoup. However, I never predicted it would be nominated because there seemed to be no consensus this year about anything.
Even with the announcement of the nominations, I don't really see a clear frontrunner, although I may well be totally wrong. Based on the shows I have seen, my guess is that SUFFS will win Best Musical and The Outsiders will take Best Score. I would not be surprised if Hell's Kitchen becomes the season's biggest commercial success. Just guesses on my part, and I have to admit my track record for predicting anything is not very good. |
