This was the only time Sondheim ever took a song away from one character and handed it to another.
First, why do you assume this was Sondheim's doing? Also, Frank sang the same lyrics he sings at the wedding ceremony, Beth's lyrics are markedly different.
And then of course there's the case of "Losing My Mind" being written for Phyllis, and "The Best Thing That Ever Has Happened" being written for Wilson and Nellie in Bounce but then given to Addison and Hollis in Road Show. And the Proprietor taking the "Another National Anthem" solo spot away from Byck. |
