I wish I could get to this ''Sunday in the Park With George'' revival at Axelrod Performing Arts Center before it closes March 24 in Deal Park, N.J. Based on the video snippets I've seen, it looks like Eamon Foley has found a fascinating way to connect the dots between Seurat's pointillism and having dancers on pointe. For instance, Foley says he's chosen to illustrate Seurat's artistic process by having his dancers personify different colors of his palette. Foley says he's been working on his dance concept for years, and even got it in front of Sondheim at one point. I wonder how Sondheim would've reacted this dance-centric revival, especially since his shows generally haven't been best-known for their choreography. By the way, Foley says he first fixated on ''Sunday in the Park'' as a PBS TV special; as a child actor, he made his Broadway debut as a newsboy in the 2003 revival of ''Gypsy,'' starring Bernadette Peters.

I'm also very happy for Graham Phillips, whom I first saw in 2008 when he starred on Broadway in Jason Robert Brown's ''13,'' alongside Foley (and future pop star Ariana Grande). It's remarkable that, within one year, Phillips has starred in two very different revivals of ''Sunday in the Park'': one on the West Coast (Pasadena Playhouse) and one on the East Coast (Axelrod PAC). At Pasadena, Phillips won the FRED Award for the season's favorite male performance there. And he was directed by Sarna Lapine, who also directed Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford in ''Sunday'' on Broadway. I wonder if Sarna or her uncle, James Lapine, the show's original Tony-nominated director and librettist, will get to spend a ''Sunday'' at the Axelrod in New Jersey.
