I believe the screenplay by Bob Gale who also wrote the Book was nominated for the Oscar. So it absolutely has a great book. It is incredibly clever. One of the best ever. And I do not believe the songs are forgettable as I was already singing the songs to myself during intermission and afterwards, I went online to listen to the cast recording. I've seen it four times now and the songs are very pleasurable. Definitely the best of what I've heard this season. I haven't seen The Outsiders or The Great Gatsby yet though. As for the Tony nominations, I would've picked it over all the nominations. I'd certainly pick BTTF over Illinoise which was beautiful- dance, light, and music- but didn't excite me. On any given night, I was given the choice between a free ticket to Illinoise and a free ticket to BTTF, I would always pick BTTF. For that matter, I'd rather see BTTF over Hamilton. Truly. Entertaining goes a long way for me. | |
