| Gorgeous. That song never fails to make me cry. Enoch is such an easy character to judge for his priggishness and dogmatism but Carrie's devotion to him excuses all that. (Not dissimilar, I guess, to Julie's expiation of Billy's more violent sins.) Did Oscar Hammerstein write that first line as "The fust time he kissed me..."? Or is it just Jean Darling's "Maine accent"? |
