I saw yesterday's matinee and my program did contain an insert noting Ghee's absence. Understudy Demarius R. Copes was terrific as the Jester. He sang and moved beautifully and had strong rapport with the audience. As for the show, I agree: it hasn't worn well --- if its book, especially, ever was that much to wear. Some pleasant songs sung by great voices (especially Rikki Renee Daniels as Lady Larkin). Michael Urie was perfect as Dauntless, but I sound Sutton Foster bland (as I usually do) as Winnifred. She sings beautifully and moves with great agility. But I don't think she has a comedic flair; she dropped a lot of laugh lines. And this is a show that was built around a great comic. So....
