I continue to think these volatility characterizations are hyperbole, but I'll let you and den (and anyone else) have your opinions.

Your first paragraph suggests that you want great seats for in demand shows at bargain prices. Awesome. You are incorrect about what drives the averages because (a) not that many of the theatres we are talking about even have balconies, (b) those that do have relatively few nosebleed seats, and (c) some don't sell those seats unless there is a demand that develops. As I have said on this board before, some of my most thrilling memories are from balconies. Sadly, this board seems to have become a magnet for a subset that, for whatever reason, (1) loves to kvetch and (2) has an unhealthy degree of self-entitlement.

Your last paragraph replaces hyperbole with falsity. It is silly to suggest that Broadway is "completely" for anything. And a quick look at this season gives lie to that notion. Equally preposterous is the pronouncement about what producers have "no interest in." Again, that suggestion is easily disproved without breaking a sweat. There are shows with movie stars and shows without. Both result in both hits and flops. Finally, the Sondheim comment royally misapprehends an awful lot. But have fun whatever you do. Some of us here actually enjoy the theatre.
