Average prices take into account the price of sitting in the back row of the balcony--who wants to sit there?? I recall dynamic pricing way back with the Porgy & Bess with Audra. I followed the price for one specific seat at one specific performance and saw that, throughout the week, the price juggled up and down depending on the day and time I checked. Bway is now made completely for tourists. Producers have no interest whatsoever in cultivating a hometown audience. They will stick movie stars into whatever play and that will, for the most part, guarantee a return. Heck, even Sondheim is finally making a profit using those parameters. |
