Reading "A chorus line and the musicals of Michael Bennett"

Two things stick out in close succession for the "things aren't like they were" crowd.

1. "Ticket prices were immediately raised after opening night, and demand was intense" (yes, prices for in-demand shows went up and you couldn't find cheap tickets to whatever you wanted all the time, despite rumours to the contrary

2. "The run at the public was marred only by much cast illness, the result of months of exhausting effort. One night Donna McKechnie and Carole Bishop were out and there was only one understudy for both, so they cut the role of Sheila for two shows. Dialogue was reassigned and At the Ballet became a duet" No, not all the stars troopers through every performance every time, and audiences did not feel robbed.
