I think there was a misunderstanding there. There were lower priced previews. The higher prices were already listed on the day of the opening, before the reviews came out. I think within a few hours of the reviews, the rest of the Public run was sold out. For the two months remaining in its run at the Public, ticket prices for A Chorus Line went from a high of $8 to a high of $10 on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees, and to $9, up from $7, at other performances. Oddly, the low price went down $1, from a low of $7 at the more expensive performances and $6 at the less experience performances, to $6 and $5, respectively. On Broadway, the top price was $15 for orchestra. Mezzanine was less. According to the U.S. inflation calculator, $15 in 1975 is $86.52 today. |
