When I read this sentence "Shakespeare’s play, the statement added, “cannot be successfully performed with a non-physically-disabled actor at the helm.”, i got very angry. Just in my lifetime I have seen a stream of VERY successful productions of RICHARD III, led by actors such as Olivier, Antony Sher, Robert Lindsay, Kathryn Hunter, Kenneth Branagh ..." Great plays need great actors. Thats what makes them live. Being 'disabled' is a visual manifestation of character to Shakespeare - its a marker - but its not the character. The character is not disabled - he is purely evil and manipulative. Maybe not the Real life R3 in the same way, but that's not what Shakespeare was interested in.

The reductive notion that every character should be played by someone with all the characteristics of the character is balderdash pure and simple. The first qualification of a role is cab you be brilliant in it as an actor? To be slightly rude - do you have to be a paedophile to play the lead in the musical MJ? I think not.
