I have not heard reports of absences recently and Lindsay Mendez showed up for the Wednesday matinee I attended on April 17th in fine fettle.
I believe the cable movie she was cast in before the SAG-AFTRA actor's strike and she had to take time off from "Merrily" to finish filming her scenes after the unions settled.
So that is a weird and unforeseen circumstance. I agree the producers should have announced the dates she would be out filming. Then there are the (genuine) illnesses (the show opened in the winter) and the marital problems.

We expend so much hatred and venom towards her. I think there was another similar inexplicable case of Donna Murphy in the Broadway transfer of "Wonderful Town" years ago. Donna had some sort of neck injury that was affecting her voice and was canceling as much as she was performing. The Weisslers who were producing and Murphy elected to not explain what her problem was and when standby extraordinaire Linda Mugleston was going to save the day (yet again). It generated a lot of bewilderment and resentment towards Murphy until it was later explained that she was going through a health situation. But why the secrecy? Murphy explained what happened later but she had a bad reputation for unreliability that trailed her for several years. It also took years for her physical issue to heal.
