| I saw it at Williamstown. Rachel Chavkin staged it inventively, but your impression of the score aligns with my memory. Eden Espinosa is a vocal powerhouse but not much of an actress. I kept thinking someone else would have brought more complexity to a character as multifaceted as Tamara de Lempicka. Carmen Cusack, who is no longer involved, gave the best performance as Lempicka's lover and muse. My memory is also that it was very long (a solid 3 hours) and not always involving. I am not sure how it will play out for a general Broadway audience. |
