| I prefer original book musicals to bio-musicals and jukebox book shows. However, I have to admit that many of the bio-musical genre have been very entertaining and have been commercial successes. Besides Beautiful and MJ (which you mentioned), Jersey Boys, The Boy from Oz, Motown, Ain't Too Proud, and perhaps a few I'm forgetting have all been official hits, i.e., recouped their investment. I enjoyed A Wonderful World when I saw it last year in Chicago. It wasn't perfect, but I certainly would not trash it before it begins its run on Broadway without re-visting it and seeing for myself. |
