re "not many notes" ...
I remember a conversation I had a few years ago with a friend, who is a pretty well known guitarist. He made the point that the TV show "Name That Tune" ("I can name that tune in __ notes") wasn't far off. He observed that a large part of the American Songbook was identifiable by only 2 (not necessarily the first 2) notes. [I think Over the Rainbow is easy enough to ID with just "Some...where."] His further point was that you cannot successfully copyright two notes even six octaves apart. |
