| Saw it in Chicago. It's visually stunning. I personally don't care for the material, but I still recognized it as a very strong production. Great performances all around. The Acid Queen was astonishing and disturbing and I mean that as praise. The show was very well received by audiences here. The show is LOUD! they were passing out earplugs at The Goodman. I saw it in early previews with little knowledge of the subject matter. I found it distasteful, but I know I am very much in the minority on this. The Goodman eventually added this warning a few weeks into the run. "The Who’s Tommy is a story that includes depictions of child abuse, bullying, suggested sexual and substance abuse and scenes of war. This production includes loud music, multiple gunshots, theatrical haze, as well as strobe and flashing light effects." |
