Mattress is a funny show with an enjoyable score, but it's not a top notch musical comedy like Guys & Dolls, Funny Thing/Forum, How to Succeed, and others. It's done now and then in regional theatre and still works at that level. Parker was miscast in the revival. Ann B. Davis was a gifted clown at the time, but certainly didn't have the pipes that Burnett had.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to revive Mattress at the Broadway level, even with a major star like Sutton Foster or Chenoweth (which is being rumored), since neither would be as perfect for the role as Burnett turned out to be. BTW, I believe the part of Winnifred was actually written with Nancy Walker in mind, not Burnett.
