| Has ONCE UPON A MATTRESS ever worked in a major production without Burnett? The original closed pretty quickly when Burnett left and was replaced by Ann B. Davis. The London production didn't last long with Jane Connell. The Broadway revival with Sarah Jessica Parker didn't run long and didn't get much positive response. There was the recent off-Broadway revival with Jackie Hoffman, but that certainly didn't set the world on fire and played a limited run and closed. It could be that Winnifred is just one of those roles that was molded so completely on the original performer that it's never going to work as well with anyone else. |
