I dunno. John Kander certainly doesn’t need the money, but a bad revival does damage to the reputation of the piece and that may be if greater value to him. I am not saying that Cabaret is really in danger of that, but on this very page there has been talk of Cabaret fatigue as a possible reason the critics dismissed this, as opposed to the fact that this version is weak no matter the context. There are people for whom this will be their first Cabaret and if I were among them, it would likely be my only Cabaret.
