I cannot find any news report at the time stating that the lights were dimmed for Jolson. I think what it says on wikipedia is probably wrong.

The lights were dimmed for Lawrence three days after she died. Not only were the lights of Broadway theatres dimmed, lights of movie theatres were also dimmed. Lights were also dimmed in London, although perhaps not on the same day.

Lights were dimmed for Alfred Lunt on August 5, 1977, two days after he died. I couldn't find anything stating that the lights were dimmed when Lynn Fontanne died.

The lights were dimmed for Merman on February 15, 1984, which was the day she died.

I've done enough searching for this evening, but maybe I will do some more sometime soon to see if I can find out about Mary Martin, Richard Rodgers and Tennessee Williams.
