Notes from my 'Notebook' nightmare of dynamic pricing

The other night, I tried to book a pair of orchestra tickets to ''The Notebook.''

Even though the site boasts of tickets ranging from $94-$268, I was surprised to learn that many of the orchestra seats were in the $300-$400 range. I finally found a single ticket in the side orchestra, row H, for $155, but then could not find any others for that price. All the seats in front of, behind it and next to that seat were $311, even the ones, closer to the wall, with the note: ''A few minutes of the action on the balconies are obstructed.''

So I looked further back in the rear orchestra and found a single for $125, but when I clicked on it again, it was now charging $281.

All of the ''Notebook'' seats that night were pricey: $423 for center orchestra; $301 for last-row orchestra; $269 for last-row mezzanine, etc.

I revisited the site today, and those night-time prices have dropped. The $311 seats are now $155; center orchestra is $268; last-row mezz, $114.

It's crazy how wildly different the ticket prices can be depending on the time of day. I also didn't expect prices to change while I was on the site.
