| She’s certainly an active character, but Sweeney, as the protagonist, drives the story because it his desires and his choices that determine the action of the show as a whole. Mrs. Lovett supports him in that, but ultimately if he doesn’t pursue revenge on the Judge, you don’t have a plot, and every subsequent emotional high point or plot turn rests on Sweeney. | |
